Eirik B. Vika is Structural Engineer in Fjeld Consultant AS starting September last year. He has a master’s degree within Marine Technology with marine structures as specialization from NTNU,and mooring analysis is one of his key competencies.
- The reason why I joined Fjeld Consultant is the varied work tasks where the practical implementation of the projects often is a central part. The fact that it is a relatively small company means that we get a holistic understanding of the operations and calculations we carry out, and that we always must have an overall understanding to find good solutions, says Eirik.
Eirik has made stowage plans and seafastening calculations for everything from small packages to large wind turbine blades, and participated in loading of similar loads, such as around 16m high and 100t heavy suction anchors. He has worked with anchoring of barges and ships, as well as motion analyzes and calculations on air gaps for loads that sticks significantly out from ships.
- One of the projects, which was particularly interesting, was a mooring analysis of three barges to be used for housing of several hundred people. The results from this analysis are to beused to design and produce a quay facility. The three barges are moored together and exposed to wave loads, and it is required that you are solutionoriented as there were practical challenges and limitations for establishing bollards, adds Eirik.
